Okay America, I cannot stay silent any longer. Before I start, I need to admit I did not do all I could this election. I voted for Hillary but stayed in the sidelines when it came time to rally support around her. I shied away from proclaiming my political inclinations while gaping at the atrocious comments of idiocracy from the safety of my iPhone. I glowered ignorantly in my New York bubble under the assumptions that the inherent decency and goodness of humans would prevail. I was in denial about being part of the problem but I cannot and will not sit out any longer. On November 9th, 2016, I woke the fuck up. Everyday we toil for ourselves, our families, and our futures. Why is it that when it comes to the political process, so many of us choose to tune out? While I do my civic duty to vote, I do not engage. And that is inherently hypocritical when laws and policies govern our rights and livelihoods. We must devote as much time and energy to engaging in government as we do to working towards our goals. We will feel small in the face of a giant impenetrable machine but as we saw this week, each and one of us can add up to make a real difference. There is strength in numbers and strength in coming together. You alone cannot change this country but by joining up in arms with your neighbors, brothers, sisters, you can change the planet burning, other-hating, venomous and reckless course we are on. (1/3)
